“Inspiration”

Inspiration comes to us in many forms if we only open our eyes, minds and hearts to what’s around us. You may want to check out the artists/teachers/authors, organizations and publications that have inspired me during my artistic journey.

Artists/Teachers/Authors

Wen Redmond (wenredmond.com)

Wen creates contemporary art in fiber, photography and mixed media. You can spend hours falling into her compositions.

Jane Dunnewold (janedunnewold.com)

Jane is an international award-winning surface design artist, lecturer and teacher, and author of several books. If she lived closer to me I would jump at the opportunity of being her studio “gopher."

Valerie Goodwin (valeriegoodwinart.com)

Valerie is a US fiber artist, retired professor of architecture, author and teacher who integrates her expert knowledge and experience of architecture into her textile artwork.

Susan Lenz (susanlenz.com) is a prolific creator of all things made with fiber, textiles and mixed media. Just reading her Artist Statement is worth the visit to her site, but you won’t stop there...enjoy the head-long dive!

Organizations

Studio Art Quilters Association (SAQA.com) is an international association dedicated to promoting the art quilt and the artists who create them.

Pacific International Quilt Festival (quiltfest.com) is an annual festival held at Santa Clara, CA Convention Center which celebrates the art of quilting. Hundreds of quilts (traditional, modern and art) are on display along with a merchants mall and workshops taught by world-class faculty.

International Quilt Festival (quilts.com) is the largest annual quilt show in the US held each November in Houston, TX. It is mind boggling! Attendance is over 50,000 people, offering 1000 merchant booths and over 500 classes and lectures, and features more than 1600 art quilts on display.

Sacred Threads (sacredthreadsquilts.com) is a biennial exhibition of quilts exploring themes of joy, inspiration, spirituality, healing, grief, peace and brotherhood.

Publications

“Quilting Arts Magazine” (quiltingdaily.com) is a quarterly publication. I read every single page multiple times, circle items of interest, turn down page corners, try their lessons, follow-up on their resources and save them forever.
